Union reps have carried out 600 learning needs interviews at McVities over just 10 days after news of a plan to close the site by December.
The early intervention is hoped to give staff time to retrain well in advance of the closure.
The results of the Learning Needs Questionnaires showed a big demand for introductory computer courses as well as higher level IT courses and courses to help people to brush up their numeracy and literacy skills.
Ed Leach, Usdaw’s deputy convenor and union learning rep co-ordinator at the site said: "This is not an easy time for staff at McVities in Ashby but we are confident that by working in partnership with the company and the college the unions at McVities can make sure that people leave this company with as many skills and qualifications as possible."
The union is now working with local provider Stephenson College and the Learning & Skills Council to deliver courses onsite.
