Versatility and Social Style

Versatility is the key dimension of the SOCIAL STYLE Model that enables people to adjust their behavior to meet others' needs and improve performance. Research shows high-versatility individuals outperform their counterparts, and versatility can be assessed through image, presentation, competence, and feedback.

Many trainers may be aware of the SOCIAL STYLE Model developed by the TRACOM Group, which incorporates the four SOCIAL STYLES of Amiable, Analytical, Expressive and Driving, but less aware of the dimension of Versatility. Versatility is the key to making SOCIAL STYLE work and is the ability to adjust your behaviour in various situations to achieve increased performance and is similar to Emotional Intelligence (EQ) theories.

Versatility is not about changing who you are, it’s about genuinely meeting the needs of others, more than your own and a desire to work well with other people. Versatile individuals make adjustments to their behaviour by determining the SOCIAL STYLE of others and how they would prefer to be communicated with. Research shows that people with high Versatility outperform their lower-Versatility counterparts across a broad spectrum of performance measures. (TRACOM Managerial Success Study.)

There are four basic elements when determining an individual’s Versatility, Image, Presentation, Competence and Feedback and the latest Social Style profiles allow you to self assess or have other people rate your versatility.
