The Telegraph points out in a brief article today that sixth-formers and undergraduates are over-optimistic about their likely level of pay after gaining qualifications.
Just five per cent of graduates earn in excess of their expectations, whilst a third report that their pay is much less than they expected.
The report, based on a survey by the NatWest Bank said that sixth-formers believed that they were likely to earn an average of £15,180 after graduation compared to £8,730 if they started work after A-levels.
Undergraduates expected to start work on an average salary of £19,960 when the actual average figure is £12,337.
