Whatever happened to BACIE?

default-16x9

Does anyone know what happened to BACIE? I presume I've managed to avoid spotting theri destiny. I have an old training film of theirs called "Shift of Opinion" and would like to know who owns the copyright these days.

  1. BACIE
I have got a copy of “A Guide to the Identification of Training Needs” by T.H. Boydell, published by BACIE.

Their address in that is given as:

British Association for Commercial and Industrial Education
    16 Park Crescent
    London
    W1N 4AP

However, the publication is dated 1983!

  2. BACIE now CIPD training
If I’m not mistaken BACIE was taken over by the Institute of Personnel & Development and is now their training wing. Some of their excellent exercises were produced in ring binder format but are sadly no longer available. The book on Training Needs Analysis written by Tom Boydell has recently been re-printed by CIPD, though – forgive me Tom – it is now looking a little dated.
I guess the Copyright for the film you refer to will rest with CIPD.

  3. Better late than never!
I’m not sure if this will be seen by anyone, as I’m responding to an item written in 2001. This was a query re what happened to BACIE? Graham O’Connel said that CIPD had republished a booklet on Training Needs that I wrote and thatr was originally published by BACIE, and that it was now looking somewhat dated.

I agree it was/is dated, although when originally published in the 1970s it was pretty much frontier styff! However I am not aware that CIPD ever did reissue it. They did publish a new book by myself and Malcolm Leary – “Identifying Training Needs” – in 1996, and reprinted 7 times since.

Hope I’m not guilty of overplugging my work – don’t want to be banned from the Zone! – but I do think this new book was and remains pretty good. I believe it’s now out of print (CIPD doesn’t tell its authors very much about what’s happening) although I do have a handful of spare copies and…..[that’s enough ed]
