What’s Hot in IT Training

default-16x9

Hi All, I am due to deliver the workshop "Successful Freelancing - Exploring Reality and Exploding Myths " at the 2009 National IITT Conference in next month. One of the topics we will be exploring is "What are the hot technologies to concentrate on?" So in your experience If you are an IT trainer, what are your top IT courses, you deliver, and also any courses you are asked to deliver regularly, which you currently cannot deliver. If you are an IT training broker/agency what are the top most requested technical and end user courses. Thank you Julia Emelogu Maximum Impact Solutions www.maximumimpactsolutions.co.uk

  1. Popular training subjects
    Hi Julia

    Hope you are keeping well.

Microsoft Office apps courses have become more popular again for us over the last couple of years. Less so your standard courses, but usually some form of tailored workshop or programme for the client. Sharepoint is big, and PRINCE2 is still very popular.

I’d also be interested to know other peoples thoughts on popular subjects are emerging ones.

    cheers

    Jamie

  2. IT Training
    Hi Julia

I’m finding more enquiries for Vmware V4, ITIL v3 (Foundation and the different Practitioner levels), and of PRINCE2 2009 is new.

    Kind regards

  3. Whats hot for Enlightened Training (UK)
It’s reassuring to see that many companies are recognising it is even more important to develop talent in these hard times. We are finding that those who invest in developing core professional skills for example will win through when the economy recovers. Prince2, ITIL, VMware, .NET are still as popular as ever. We are seeing resurgence in Business Analysis and System Analysis and Modelling Business process, for obvious reasons. However, most of the current demand is now based on actual requirements rather than a nice to have. Previously training was most commonly price driven, perhaps an impulse buy as a result of a “special offer” from a provider. Most of the current requirement is a balance between current business requirements, the changing nature of education and the economic climate.

Social networking training is the “new kid on the block”. Our trainers are continually creating new and innovative ways to use Twitter, Face book, LinkedIn etc in business. Decision makers are now beginning to understand the value social networks can add to their business. Nearly half (43%) of HR and L&D professionals use social networks, such as LinkedIn, to learn and gather knowledge. UK businesses are recognising the huge opportunity to cost-effectively build knowledge and understanding, as well as engagement, across large volumes of employees in different locations.

Commvault and Nettback up are being requested on a more regular basis. Cloud computing, Green IT are also creating excitement within the education sector. The areas we have difficulty finding resource to train is generally on new technologies or methodologies.

  4. Regular Requests for Capitential LTD
We deliver professional services – including technical, BA and Change/ Training Management for businesses, small and large. Demand has been low to non existent the last year, I must say. Only in the last month has it been picking up.

What is now requested are technical courses in Siebel CRM, especially the ones leading to certification, thus the focus is not on business end users but on technical experts. Business opportunities are in professional services for areas of Siebel/ Oracle/ SAP that support newer technologies, e.g., modules relating to application integration using Web Services; XML based modules that support Blackberry/ PDA devices; and modules that support online businesses, e.g., administration tasks for web portals including product/ asset cataloguing, order management and online order tracking.
