What’s your idea of training heaven or ***?

What's your idea of training heaven? Delegates turning up on time? Being flown across to a desert island to deliver a session? What about your training hell? Delegates disappearing with your resources, running out of pens?

We have been running this competition in the run up to and during Learning Technologies. The judges have been puzzling over the best, most entertaining responses but there were certainly some themes that were prevalent. It seems a fear of no one turning was big on the 'hell' agenda as was the fear of PowerPoint presentations, while it seems all trainers want is a bit of engagement and a thank you at the end of the day!

Here were just some of the entries from Learning Technologies...

Training Heaven:

"Having awake trainees ready to learn things themselves!" (Kim)

"When the day ends with a learner saying: 'Thanks you've changed my life!' (it happened to me!)" (Anthony)

"When you can see the change in people..." (anon)

"Happy trainees!" (Kay)

"Being appreciated by participants - a thank you goes a long way." (Gordon)

"Collaborative and practical plus ice cream!" (Bernice)

"Human contact and peer working" (anon)

"People who volunteer to be on a course..." (anon)

"People who know why they're there, want to learn and ask questions!" (anon)

"Good facilitation."  (Wendy)

"Engaged!" (anon)

Training Hell:

"Someone who has their phone on during training but rather than answer or simply switch it off they throw their phone to the groud and stamp on it...smiling! (Steve)

"When 'being trained' stops me from learning - note to trainers: It's about them, not you!" (Anthony)

"Death by PowerPoint!

  • Lists
  • of lists
  • of lists
  • lists
  • lists
  • lists
  • more lists
  • more
  • more... " (Elspeth)

"Poor interactivity." (Berry)

"Having a delegate with ADHD and who hated women who would disrupt the course by barking like a dog, throwing things across the classroom!" (Nicky)

"Problems with technology" (anon)

"Trainers who idea of training is using 100+ PowerPoint slides - arghhh!" (Hilary)

"No one turns up!" (anon)

"Delegates who turn up late and then tell you they have to leave early...may they be damned to eternal hellfire!" (Steve)

"Enraged!" (anon)

"ICT!"

"No interaction, static visuals." (anon)

"People who have all the tools and are pushed in the right direction...but when they don't know, they blame training!" (Kim)

"PowerPoint, university style lecture with no interaction and no way of making notes." (anon)

And the winner is...

Congratulations to Steve from Profile Training for his funny comment!

"Delegates who turn up late and then tell you they have to leave early...may they be damned to eternal hellfire!"

Your prize will be with you shortly.  Thanks to everyone who took part.
