My clients have no IT expereince at all. I can provide training on Word, Powerpoint, Excel etc. Its the data base area that I am having difficulty with. For this training I want a mock data base for them to practice data entry on and then run various searches or reports on the info stored. Can anyone help? At the moment I have no budget for this and the net has so far only provided examples that will cost an arm and a leg!

Free Databases
I seem to remember that Microsoft Access comes bundled with a suite of practice databases based around the ficticious Northwind company. Maybe these will do?
Database or database software
Do you mean a file in database format full of practice data, or a database package like MS Access, or Lotus Approach (cheap) or mySQL (free, but very complex)?
If you are just looking for material to practise on I wrote a book for BPP Publishing (0208 740 2211) a few years ago on spreadsheets and databases which included a free CD-ROM with lots of samples. It used to be called AAT Unit 21 “Using Information Technology”. About £10. There was a question book and a text book, I think. You want the question book.
Free database
If you have Microsoft Access, then you have access to the Northwinds database which is good for training purposes. Import some of the related tables into a blank database (eg Customers, Orders and Order details). Your students therefore won’t have to deal with all the other objects in the Northwinds database.
Database information
If you have Microsoft access, it will be easy to create a basic database for your clients to manipulate.
If you need any pointers, my mail address is mjk__010@hotmail.com

Sorry to join in at this late stage. MS Access all versions have sample database for FREE. Give me a call or e-mail if you need further help.
