1. Coach Training

I trained with the Academy of Executive Coaching and highly recommend them both for their rigorous approach and for their humanity. I had a wonderful experience on theri Diploma in Advanced Executive Coaching, both in terms of development and of challenge. Check them out here: http://www.aoec.com/open/core.asp

  2. ILM Level 7 Qual

I recently completed the ILM Level 7 Certificate in Executive Coaching and Leadership and Mentoring. I chose it because it specifically included mentoring and it drew on my many years of experience without taking me back over the basics of coaching and mentoring.

It also suited me because it was completely tailored to my needs and delivered on a one-to-one basis – coaching style. I found the assignments quite challenging as I’m so out of practise – but great to reflect on my approach to coaching and where it fits into the wider leadership development activity. It ‘forced’ to go back to previous ‘coachees’ and get some specific feedback on my coaching effectiveness – a really useful and positive exercise!

It worked well for me – I guess a lot depends on the provider – I was very lucky with Chapel Associates in Norwich.

  3. Advanced Certificate in Executive Coaching

I can highly recommend the Advanced Certificate in Executive Coaching offered by The Performance Solution and run by Sally Vanson and her team. I completed this programme in 2007 and it had a profound effect on me both as a person and as a learning practitioner. I went into the programme thinking that I was ‘only’ going to learn about coaching processes and methodlogy and came away with so much more than that, such as greater self belief and understanding as well as some amazing tools and techniques that I have put to good use ever since.

  4. MSc Coaching & Development

Let me declare an interest up front. Just like Victor Kiam, I liked it so much, that I bought (into) the company!

This programme is delivered by Performance Consultants and awarded by University of Portsmouth. Although there are exits at Postgraduate Certificate and Postgraduate Diploma, I wanted to push my learning as far as possible and graduated in the first cohort with a Masters degree in 2005. All 3 levels carry EMCC EQA accreditation. The attraction of this programme was the balance of academic rigour and practical application of coaching (all tutors are active practitioners in their own specialities). I was able to use the assessed work-based learning projects to extend my own understanding whilst carrying out research projects with clients. Since graduation I have been operating with the heightened level of professionalism, knowledge and confidence that clients deserve.

  5. Best course in coaching and mentoring

    Hi everyone

I know there are a lot of good courses now but for me there is only one choice – the Performance Consultants/University of Portsmouth MSc (Coaching and Development). It was thorough in every sense, and also covered many different approaches to coaching rather than pushing any one method or tool. And the quality of the tutors was first rate. When I completed it I felt able to use a range from GROW to Appreciative Inquiry, from NLP to transpersonal – a really rich mix which has allowed me to be relaxed in using none, one or some tools, but always with a tool being the servant of my practice and not its master! The course was both practical and academic and it has allowed me to mix what I hope is really good practice with writing and publishing on coaching too – which for a nascent profession is really important as we try to get established and taken seriously. I can’t recommend it highly enough. I have found it has also been a big factor in my practice taking off and being successful and I am very grateful. If anyone would like to contact me about the course please email eve@eve-turner.com

    Kind regards

    Eve
