I have been told about a course I should try called "8D Problem Solving" or something very similar to this. This is a discipline method of problem solving mainly used by engineers.

This is widely used by the motor industry. I used to work in this area and we used the 8D problem solving based on Ford Motor Co. You may try to contact them to see if they do any training outside their supplier base. They do have a training section.
