A strange request...I am trying to track down a legal firm that can translate a legal document from its native German in to English and at the same time provide in layman's terms what the legal implications contained in the document actually are.

Possibilities
Dear Martin,
I do quite a bit of Employment Law training both in the UK and parts of Europe and have found some very good translation services in the strangest of places:
http://www.smarterwork.com
http://www.tenderdirect.co.uk
You could also go direct to a German firm, or try the Institute of Linguists, who may be able to direct you straight to someone who specialises in this kind of work.

Megan

don’t waste yr money asking a legal firm to translate – they will simply add their margin to it. try the members list at the ATC:
http://www.atc.org.uk
[plug – my friend is a member “offshoretranslations.com” – and 90% of their stuff is legal – but you’ll find plenty of others in yr field]
