Does anybody have details of any web sites I can use to teach beginners how to use the mouse (and keyboard). I know we can use solitaire but I wanted something a bit more exciting.
Also if anyone's got any general tips for training complete beginners I'd be very grateful.

have you considered
Heather,
have you considered using one of the many java games available free on the net?
many of these games are mouse compatible and would be a fun way to learn.

mouse resources
Heather,
Try Mousercise a for nice basic introduction & practice. http://www.ckls.org/~crippel/computerlab/tutorials/
I’ve also found (but not tried out) http://www.lawrencegoetz.com/programs/mousepractice/
Otherwise, I’ve used a PowerPoint file with clipart jigsaws ungrouped. Trainees have to click and drag the pieces back together. I’ve also heard of similar exercises using Action Buttons to jump to new slides / files.
Hope this helps, Janice
Solitaire not Exciting?
Remember when you first played solitaire in the Windows environment? Wasn’t it great? And Minesweeper (right-clicks and combinations) and Free-cell (drag and drop).
Don’t look at these games with your own perspective, but that of the new user. If it works, why fix it?
As for keyboard literacy and games, erm, Mavis Beacon?
Art & Music
The game ‘EvE’ made by Peter Gabriel provides a nice, chalenging way to deal with the mouse. The game is beautifully made and graphics are stunning. The theme is on 4 artists, who designed their own world’s in the game. Lot’s of music aswell.
I’ve used it with trainees. They were surprised at first but have all completed it in their own time since they enjoyed the game that much.
