The Commission for Racial Equality yesterday criticised the BBC for not employing more black and Asian people in top jobs or promoting them as presenters.

Deputy Chairman of the the Commission, Beverley Bernard, said that the BBC has overlooked minority workers for years, and that despite obvious exceptions such as chef Ainsley Harriott, there were still not enough black and Asian people in top positions in the corporation.

Director-General of the BBC, Greg Dyke, said, "People in the BBC don't need to be convinced of the need for change."
