The Express online today reports the case of obstetrician Feyi Awotona, formerly employed at Newcastle upon Tyne's Royal Victoria Infirmary.
Dr Awotona is claiming unfair dismissal and racial and sexual discrimination.
The case is being defended by the NHS Trust for South Tyneside which says that Dr Awotona's sacking in December of 1998 followed three years of conflict, cancelled operations and failure to meet the requirements of consultancy cover.
The case is expected to last around a month.
