What software would you recommend to manage a training programme?

default-16x9

I work as an IT Development Officer for the Dundee City Council Social Work Department. A user in our Training Section has asked me to advise them on an appropriate package to display graphically and manage course dates over a 3 - 4 month period. The first solution is to use MS Project (or like) packages. However, this appears excessive when it is only the Gantt chart feature that is to be used. I am therefore experiencing great difficulty in identifying an appropriate package and would appreciate any ideas you may be able to provide.

  1. LotusNotes and a little effort
We have used a LotusNotes to act as a central source of what is available, when and where. The package manages all aspects by checking requests against availability, and it won’t overbook a course ! The output data is deliverable in tabular form within Notes – fully searchable against specific criteria – and the table output to Lotus 123 or MS Excel will give the graphical display you require. IMHO(in my humble opinion) MS Project is not a good tool for the purpose, and doesn’t have very good graphical output
