“Best Value” in Local Government?

default-16x9

I am increasingly finding the principles of "Best Value" thrown into invitations to tender etc and am interested to know if anyone out there in e-land has come across any helpful articles, websites etc summarising the key principles - it seems like each LA has its' own ideas and few of their documents are paragons of brevity and clarity.

HELP!!!

  1. Best Value websites
I’m researching Best Value for an MA in addition to being in a similar position to yourself in terms of bidding for work.

Your best place to start is the IDEA website.

    http://www.idea.gov.uk

This is a national organisation representing local government and has a best value forum in addition to plenty of information on the development of best value under their services section. You can also link into a whole variety of other government sites such as the cabinet office and DETR and begin to get a feel for what is going on. Hope this helps.

  2. Best Value in local government
The best website I found was the Audit Commission one. Within it is a copy of a report detailing the Best Value Performance Indicators for 2000/1. The report is listed in chapters. Chapters 6-12 list the BVPIs. I suggest you look at these first.
Sorry I do not have the correct web address on me but I believe there are links on both the websites given in the other answers.

I would say that best value is an attempt to encourage local authorities to be more customer focused and deliver the right service at the right cost.
