Happy to help-have done the old ITD Diploma/more.
Plenty of scope – all depends on your resources and facilities. Is it to be a practical activity? or theory? Having run train the trainer and such like in a variety of practical environments I have seen lots of sessions that are suitable.
Either e-mail or contact me at the office on 0161 875 0103
Why not keep it simple
In a similar situation I trained people on how to make a pot of tea. In an IPD course any refreshment is heartily welcomed by the delegates.
Training session
I am a trainer and have run loads of one to one and trainer training programmes.
some of the activities I have observed are:
Wiring a plug for women – using the sort of ‘tools’ which you can find in a hurry – scissors, knives. etc. – this was fun.
Making a non-alcoholic cocktail.
Making ‘banana boats’
Putting a Sari on.
Using a gas mask (from a territorial Army trainee)
Planning to decorate a room using ‘story boards’
Making a paper plane.
Doing belly dance/line dancing (bringing along the appropriate music)
Threading a needle.
Tying knots.
Booting up a computer.
Making paper flowers.
Hope this may be of some use.
20-minute training activity
Marlene, I once demonstrated how to change a car wheel due to a ‘flat’ tyre. It got the course participants out of the classroom and into the car park (fortunately it was a warm dry day!). It went very well as the ‘students’ identified it as something that could be really useful to them personally. Some of these short training activites fall flat because they involve something that the students can’t identify as personally relevant to them.
Eddie.
