A London-based symposium will debate the application of the UK’s digital literacy skills in the global market.

Representatives of industry, government, the EU, NGOs and academia will discuss an international programme to ensure that appropriate skills strategies are used to achieve UK competitiveness in the world market.

The conference aims to smooth the progress of talks between government and NGO education policy makers and corporate technologists.

Run by the Council of European Professional Informatics Societies (CEPIS) and the European Computer Driving Licence Foundation (ECDL), the convention will take place at Windsor Castle.

President of CEPIS and an ECDL Foundation board director Geoff McMullen will be chairing the event. Commenting on the aims of the digital literacy discussions, he explained the importance of establishing an internationally recognised IT training and qualification programme for the UK.

Commenting he said: “Global digital literacy is of vital importance for the progression of mutual human understanding, for the interaction between people and their respective governments and as the core to efficient and rewarding communication in both the workplace and at home.

“Ensuring that the continuing spread of information systems is adopted and used wisely and skilfully is of paramount importance to all of the world’s societies.”
