HSBC is rolling out specially designed ‘learning pods’ in 1200 branches across the UK in a bid to offer just-in-time learning to its staff.
The new workstations are dedicated to staff training and development and aim to offer fast, easy access to a comprehensive range of learning tools covering professional and personal development.
HSBC’s head of learning and development Ann Ewing said the pods were “a drive to enhance the development and career progression of our people”.
“In a busy, fast moving world, we need to bring learning opportunities to people at their finger tips – when and how they need them.”
The stations will have access to Live! TV, a weekly communication to HSBC staff; online learning; the UK’s largest corporate lending library which offers books, DVDs and CD-Roms; HSBC’s intranet and a number of external learning sites; and course information, giving staff the ability to book a place.
Julie Harding, HSBC HR director, stressed the importance of personal and professional growth for all staff.
“We aspire to be the best place to work and continually encouraging people to learn and develop is central to this,” she said. “The pace of change in the workplace is rapid and it is essential that we enable our employees to upgrade and update their skills on a regular basis.”
