Product Review: CorelDRAW 10

default-16x9

Corel started life as a standalone vector drawing package but has developed over the years into a comprehensive graphics package. This version now includes PhotoPaint for image editing and Real Animated Vector Effects (RAVE) for creating animations.

CorelDRAW's interface has improved across the whole suite and some subtle changes have been added that do increase productivity, such as the micronudge feature that allows you to move objects a bit at a time using the keyboard. An auto-panning feature allows the user to keep pace if you try to draw beyond the visible limits of the display.

RAVE brings excellent animation features that are also easy to use and even looks almost identical to CorelDRAW itself. At the bottom of the screen is a timeline that everytime an object is added, it appears as a mark along this line.

This allows the object on this line can be dragged out over several frames so that it gives the object duration and at any point along the objects life, a keyframe can be set. If this object is then edited, so that it moves across the screen, playback shows the object moving smoothly across the screen.

CorelDRAW has been classed as one of the best PC drawing applications for complete beginners.
