Editor's Note
=============

Continuing the e-learning theme of our monthly feature
interviews, TrainingZONE spoke this week to Donald Clark
from Epic Group Plc. In the same week, they announced a
collaboration with QA Training, bringing together QA's classroom
expertise with Epic's wide experience in the interactive learning
market. The view from both companies was very much that
classroom-based learning still has much to offer as a complement
to the rise of all things electronic.

One method of training delivery which has very much benefited
from the advent of learning online is open learning. This year's
WOLCE exhibition and conference will be showcasing all that's new in
the world of technologies for distance learning. TrainingZONE will
be aiming to bring you all the highlights, electronically of course!

Self-managed learning: a breakthrough or a cop-out?
---------------------------------------------------
Several of the daily papers have recently featured articles
raising questions about the rise of self-managed learning in the
workplace. What seems to be at issue is whether employers are
using it as a cop-out, in order to shed some of the
responsibility for developing staff, or whether it is a real
chance for employees to access and define relevant and useful
learning for themselves.

*Question of the week*
Qualifications/courses for becoming a T & D professional
--------------------------------------------------------
I am a generalist HR Officer with 2 years experience. I have
recently completed my Graduate CIPD and have a degree. My
organisation is willing to sponsor me to do a qualification/
course in order to transfer over to our Training and Development
team, in line with my desired career path. One suggestion is that
I do the Certificate in Training Practice - however, I am
concerned that having done my CIPD this might not be at the right
level for me. I would be grateful on your views/experiences of
suitable courses/qualifications to do for this area which are
well-recognised and would match my educational level.

Thanks
Alison Clayton
