Last week's Training Solutions and IT Training Show in Birmingham was an exciting and dynamic affair - it was far more vibrant than most of the other training exhibitions I've been to recently. Both exhibitors and visitors were enthusiastic and creative in their approach. On the TrainingZone stand it was great to meet to many people who enjoyed what we're doing in building this community; and it was particularly heartening that hundreds of new members registered with TrainingZone over the week. Your support is really welcome. We know that many people copy or forward the LearningWire to colleagues each week; this is great. We would also encourage them to register and receive their own copy absolutely free - simple instructions are at the foot of the page.
I'm on holiday for two weeks so your emails to me will not be read until late July. Please welcome two guest editors to occupy my virtual chair. Penny Sharland (mailto:penny@framework.org.uk) takes over from 12 July, and Garry Platt (mailto:garry@gplatt.demon.co.uk) is in charge for the week from 19 July. Do please contact them with information for TrainingZone and LearningWire. If you have any problems with our service, our service department (mailto:service@trainingzone.co.uk) will be pleased to help.
Whatever you're doing, best wishes for a relaxing summer.

Training Show Reviews
=====================
The show was buzzing with products and services. We asked members to report on some of the some of the ideas which captured their attention over the three days. These trainers prepared short reviews all of which we've posted at https://www.trainingzone.co.uk/reviews
Electronic projection and whiteboard systems were on prominent display on several stands. These are really neat. Any computer screen can be projected onto an electronic whiteboard. Nothing new about that. However, the technology allows you to use your finger as a mouse on the screen and operate the computer; you can write or draw on the screen and capture it back to disk; you can manipulate images, surf the internet, create action lists - all with your finger on the screen. The Reviews pages contains further information about two systems from SmartBoard and Promethean.
The Qualitean Quest Game was one of three board game style products from a South African company. Looking like a super-deluxe version of Monopoly, this competitive game explores business development ideas with a strong focus on quality systems and their implementation to gain competitive advantage. A highly versatile game, it offered hundreds of situations and questions for players.
Tech Train from Salford were displaying some imaginative and creative approaches to education and training which they are seeking to deliver across a broader area.
The Keyboard Wizard was an amazing tutoring product from Abtec. A stand-alone keyboard with a built-in small screen and integral software it teaches all the basics of keyboard skills - without tying up one of your computers. Portable, easy-to-use, encouraging, Keyboard Wizard also includes some games and simple tests. At 49 GBP it's a cheap investment if you've got staff to bring up to speed.
One stand doing plenty of business was Stress Check. Loads of gadgets, ideas and resources for managing or reducing stress.
And if that wasn't enough, perhaps the 'mis-fit' stand of the Show was the Greg Norman One-on-One Coaching stand. In a special tent, you could tee off hard and have all your actions recorded on video. Your actions were then computer analysed against those of the professional and a comparative compilation video was prepared with personalised analysis and coaching tips prepared by Norman himself (from a massive bank of pre-recorded comments). We fell to wondering how this product might be adapted for use in other coaching and tutoring situations.

Other product reviews posted this week include:
'How to be better at Customer Care' by Timothy Foster, and 'How to be better at Delegation and Coaching' by Tony Atherton. Both books published by Kogan Page and reviewed by Leslie Rae. Also a review of 'Customers with Specific Needs' by Patricia Tallack - an A4 ringbinder manual with accompanying video.
