1. Coaching & Mentoring course
   Hi Ruth,
   I qualified via CMI (Coaching and Mentoring International) I looked at a number of other courses and found this without a doubt to be the best on the market. It is ‘pricey’ but as it is an accredited course they can offer payment options and it also qualifies for a career development loan. Whilst you are doing your research may I offer these questions to ask any training establishment.
   * How much of the course is face to face instruction compared to home study.

   * How much support do I personally receive from mentors.

   * DO you have a support network of past students

   *What is the pass rate

   * How do I find my case studies

   * Are there further career or learning opportunities within the establishment

3. The truth is out there
   Hi

   There is a key report (Coaching and buying coaching services 2005) which lists ALL the UK-available qualifications, from the CIPD at http://www.cipd.co.uk/subjects/lrnanddev/coachmntor/coachbuyservs.htm?IsSrchRes=1.

   The EMCC completed a survey of coaching qualifications which concludes there are three levels: 1 Fundamental (=internal manager-coach), 2 intermediate and advanced Practitioner (=HR specialist or standard executive coach), and 3 Master (=high-level provider). Ask for details from the EMCC at emcc@adinternational.com.

   Finally, I’d be wary of coaching qualifications which put forward ONE powerful process or model as ‘the answer’: you may risk becoming, in the words of David Megginson, ‘one of those coaches with a solution, in search of a problem’. In other words, not centred on the customer or their issues, at all!

   Better to get a professional qualification which gives you a range of all or many of the influential and main techniques, tools, and processes which YOU can choose from and which can become your own approach to this area of work.
