Yesterday I went to my local college to enrol on the CIPD.
Because I have a Btec National and Higher National Diploma in Business and Finance and also a BA Hons in Business Adminstration and Enterprise I may be excempt from the Core Management part of the CIPD. I need to work through the Advanced standing workbook first.
If I am excempt I automatically become a LICENCIATE Member of CIPD. As I would have completed the Core Management Stage of the CIPD.
My question is this:
Would training companies accept me as a LICENCIATE MEMBER OF CIPD. Would this be an acceptable level for training companies to employ me.
If so would they sponsor me to achieve the Graduate Level of Membership. Or do training companies prefer you to be at the Graduate level first, before they employ you.
Basically one way would be cost effective to me and the other not. Which ever way I do, I know that it would help to do this course in order to advance further in becoming a trainer.
What are your thoughts.
Thankyou for all your responses in advance.

Do you need a CIPD?
If you have a look through the TrainingZONE archive (use the search box at the top of the page) you’ll come across several previous debates on whether the CIPD has much relevance to the training community.
I, personally am undecided. However I do tend to think that the qualification is more there to give comfort to clients than anything else.
Don’t take me wrong, I am not against it. However I do believe that if you are going to resume your studies, it should be somethng that you want to do, rather than something you think you need to do.
CIPD routes into training
As you state your excemption is for the Core Management field (eqv to NVQ 4 Management). Even with Licentiate membership I doubt you would be taken seriously as you don’t have a ‘training qualification’. I myself gained Licentiate membership of the CIPD but I gained pratical experience by taking the Certificate in Training Practice the following year. I would suggest you explore the CTP option. You would then be in a better position to take either PQS Training & Development electives or NVQ 4 in Training & Development.
A word of warning most big companies expect Graduate membership + experience. No small company would have the time or money to train you. And would expect experience through qualifications & experience. So I am afraid, even with your excemption you are still at the beginning of the process which could take another 3 years, Consider the investment wisely.
Qualifications
For us CIPD membership would be taken into consideration as a professional interest but not in the qualification part of our recruitment strategy.
Experience, good communication skills, intellectual ability and educational qualifications in the specialist areas required to deliver are paramount.
Experience of doing the job ( ie in management training) under adverse conditions and being able to learn and pass those coping skills on is crucial in the training game.I agree with those previously writing, consider your investment carefully.
The best of luck!
