Face to Face Communication

I am running a session on different types of communication and I would like an exercise that highlights the common mistakes made in face to face communication.

I already have an exercise in which I ask delegates to tell a story to another delegate and the second delegate responds in different pre-defined ways. e.g.

Interupring
Ingnoring
Giving verbal but not non-verbal cues
Giving non-verbal but not verbal cues
Taking it onto their own agenda

Whilst I find this works well many of the delegates for this programme may have encountered it before.

Does anyone have any ideas of how I can achieving similar learning but with an exercise that will feel very different from above for those who have encoutered it before?

    This may not be the answer you are seeking but I wonder if you have read the work of Chris Argyris “Good Communications that Block Learning, Harvard Business Review July-August 1994”

    Also, “Dialogue, and The Art of Thinking Together; William Isaacs with an introduction by Peter Senge (October 1999 publication date”
    I just wonder if via reading these it will help provide some creative ideas and lead you to further resources for your program? Just a thought.
