What is the average training budget per head in your organisation?

    The recent CIPD research suggests an average of about £430 per person in the voluntary sector and £820 in the private sector. The range though is pretty large.
    Personally, I tend to take research figures like this with a large pinch of salt. This is because it depends on how you calculate the ‘spend’ per employee. Some include just the cash budget for direct cost of buying training. Others do a more detailed cost calculation. Few, in my experience, have a comprehensive costing process to show the full cost. Worst still, this usually only relates to courses, not to other learning activities.
    The budget is better calculated according to: a) the cost of meeting the identified needs; b) the delivery mechanisms you have access to (eg internal trainers versus buying in); and, in many cases, c) the amount the business can afford.
    I am sorry that I cannot give you a more straightforward answer.
