As a supplier it is crucial to understand your buyer’s pain points, wants and needs. That is why, before demonstrating our training management software we undertake a needs analysis to try and understand the current situation. The categories include:
- Current pain points
- Triggers for change
- Key objectives
The information we have collated over the last year tells quite an interesting story.
Demographics
The information we have collated over the last year is quite revealing and although only a snapshot it does reflect the views and issues surrounding the automation of training administration. The survey has been completed by a wide range of members of the training industry from accounting to healthcare and administration as well as a number of organisations conducting enterprise training. The range of job roles within organisations was also varied, and included individuals in the research phase of the buying process through to decision makers and administrators.
Key findings
1. Time is the biggest barrier to success
When asked to identify current pain points, 79% of respondents answered that day to day processed are very time consuming.
Other pain points include:
2. The management of training is outdated or disjointed
The key triggers for change identified reflect that currently many training organisations are working with multiple or outdated systems and this is hindering growth and expansion.
Answers include:
- Need for one integrated system
- To remove duplication and repetitive work
- Move from legacy inadequate outdated system
- Replace old system, web interface and ecommerce
- We would like to use a single system
- Outdated systems
3. Standardisation is the end goal
The key objective of many respondents was to provide a seamless and standardised process for both administrators, customers and the end user.
Answers include:
- Clarity and smooth end to end processes
- Co-ordination of training courses, rooms, trainers and equipment
- User Friendly both for customer and user
- Integrated management of course bookings both from a candidate and instructor point-of-view
4. Timescales for change are usually not defined
When considering a move to automation it was clear that many organisations had a need but did not necessarily have a plan. Only 36% of respondents had a timescale for when they wanted a system in place.
5. Training administration is only going to increase
Less than 15% of survey respondents answered that the number of bookings that are currently taken would not increase the following year.
This however, is only a snapshot of the individuals we have dealt with at accessplanit, but I felt that it would be useful to share this as it may, or may not be a true reflection of the current situation throughout the industry. If any readers can relate to these findings or have a view we would love to hear from you.
