For v. useful perspectives on this complex problem, a report published last week by the Institute of Employment Studies is worth reading: Costing Sickness Absence in the UK (IES report 382, £30.00)
We offer a course that considers motivation, work design, relationship management, coaching, occupational health and stress aspects of the issue.

I can recommend a course run by Human Resources in Action it covers pratical aspects such as measuring absence, and determining teh causes of absence as will a suggesting strategies to increase attendance. They run open courses all over the country.
