I am looking for some materials to put together a one-day course on assertiveness for staff. The area is social services and there is a mixture of objectives - some staff are aggressive and not recognising this and for others the issue is a lack of confidence in standing up for themselves or putting their point/opinion across to others.
Does anyone know of some (fresh...!) good materials on the subject of assertiveness?

Is training the answer?

What sort of TNA have you done on this? If people are aggressive and don’t realise this, it doesn’t sound like training would do anything, maybe some self awareness, possibly diagnostics exercises. These people who “can’t get the point across” will training really change this? In my experience, probably not, it sounds like (and I’m going on limited information here) that you could have capability issues here which would be better solved with good management and real world experience. Maybe underpinned by coaching.
Also have a second look at these staff who are aggresive/timid and try to get to the root of why they are this way before throwing training at the problem.
It could save you time, resources and money trying to fit a square peg into a round hole.

Hi, I have just put together some training on assertiveness froma site called the trainers library. You have to pay to be a member but it has some really great ideas and different exercises to use. Hope it is helpful
