Hi All-
I have been given the project to develop a bench-marking process to bench-mark our training organization against other training organizations. I think I have an idea of where to start, but would really like to get the input of people/organizations that have already been there & done that.
Does anyone do any bench-marking against other training organizations?
Which organizations does your training organization bench-mark against?
What metrics do you in the bench-marking?
How often/regular do you gather the metrics & bench-mark?
How do you gather the metrics data?

Benchmearking
Have you looked at the Towards Maturity website http://www.towardsmaturity.org/ ?
Benchmarking
Hi Bryan.
An interesting question,
Ultimately, the effectiveness of any training organisation will be based on results and I’d guess you’ll be hard-pressed to get those from potentially competitor organisations.
Depending on the scope of your project I’d be tempted to suggest to your sponsor that the best place to start is a review of yourselves:
Is there a people strategy in place and aligned to business objective and core KPI’s?
Is there a consistent quality assured model for the design, delivery and evaluation of training?
Do trainers hold a recognised skills qualification for the role they hold?
Benchmarking
I am currently the Education and Training Standards Lead for the Health and Social Care Information Centre. We have developed and implemented a set of E&T standards that form the basis for an NHS Training Service Accreditation scheme. The E&T standards can be downloaded here: http://systems.hscic.gov.uk/icd/informspec/etd/standards
The standards are well worth looking at as they allow a service to benchmark their current activities. We have also developed an online benchmarking application (only available to NHS training services) which allows training services to track progress against the E&T Standards.
I would be delighted if you or any Training Zone members would like to feedback or comment.
Regards
James
Use the Learning Maturity Scale
IHRM's Learning Maturity Scale has been designed for this purpose – but it also benchmarks the way organizations use learning. Training organizations cannot operate in a vacuum.

Couple of Questions
Hi Bryan,
A couple of questions for you – are you trying to benchmark your educational efficiency or impact from a quality review perspective (e.g. "How could we do better?") or are you a training company looking to get the leg up on your competition? Are you looking more for a guideline / roadmap to follow for your organisation or are you keen in actually being able to grade yourself objectively against another organisation?
