As I recall
They were published by penguin anere called “Tales of the Incredible Mullah Nasrudin” and “Wisdom of …”

I have nothing to add to this except thanks for posting this question!!. I have been looking for books containing these stories for ages, without success. I was beginning to think that I had mistaken the name of the Sufi!

Tales of Nasrudin
Look for Idris Shah. He is the author of the most well known collections of Nasrudin stories. He has also written some important books about learning – not just within an esoteric tradition.
