Broadcasters in training awards league of their own

default-16x9

Broadcast companies have until 25 April to take advantage of an awards opportunity that celebrates training excellence within the audiovisual industries.

That’s the deadline for firms to enter this year’s National Training Awards (NTA) – including the broadcast category, the only sector-specific accolade within the awards programme.

The National Training Awards – run by UK Skills on behalf of the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills - are for businesses, organisations and individuals who have achieved success through training and learning. They are now in their 22nd year.

Last year saw the launch of an award dedicated to the broadcast sector. Established by the Broadcast Training & Skills Regulator (BTSR), Skillset, and Ofcom in association with UK Skills, it is designed to highlight the importance of employee development within the industry.

It attracted entries spanning all broadcast disciplines, resulting in a National Award for ITV, whilst also recognising smaller operations like KMFM, the Kent-based radio station.

Peter Block, executive director at BTSR, said: “Before 2007, any broadcaster wishing to highlight its commitment to investing in people – and as such positioning itself as a forward thinking enterprise with a competitive edge – was considered for an NTA alongside businesses from sectors ranging from hospitality and automotive, to financial.

“Now though, thanks to the NTA Broadcast Sector award, those companies can be considered against their audiovisual peers – plus the presentation ceremony acts as a great networking occasion and a breeding ground for innovative training ideas. I would strongly encourage broadcast companies to enter.”

Up to three Broadcast Sector winners – one small (1-49 staff), one medium (50-249) and one large (250+) employer – will be put forward to the National Training Awards finals in December.

In addition, any broadcaster that meets the criteria will also be recognised for their employee development policy at the broadcast sector ceremony in October.

Companies can enter by visiting www.nationaltrainingawards.com, downloading an employer entry form and registering their intention to enter the broadcast category by ticking the appropriate sector box. For more details, they can contact the awards helpline on 0800 0191 475 or the BTSR on 0844 5611675.
