Competence based recruitment interviewing

Competence-based recruitment interviewing assesses candidates' abilities through structured questions about past experiences and specific job-related competencies. This approach evaluates how applicants have handled real situations rather than hypothetical scenarios, providing more reliable insights into their suitability for the role.

I have been asked to put together a workshop for delegates who will be occassionally involved in recruitment and selection. Our selection method is set around competence based interviewing. Given the narror time frame I would appreciate any ideas or exercises which will demonstrate the skills involved on a practical level

  1. Happy Families
    Hi Iain
I have done this type of training and basically I used along the lines of “happy families game” as an exercise for the delegates. What is the Competecy i.e. Communication – and match several behaviours that demonstrate this competency i.e. Awareness of Impact when speaking to others, Speaks clearly and concise without the use of jargon. Maybe have 4/5 behaviours to describe the competency and have say 7/8 competencies. Split into 2 teams to complete the task of matching the families (competency to behaviour) Hope this helps
