Competency Definition

A competency for cultural diversity encompasses the ability to understand, respect, and effectively work across different cultural backgrounds. Negative descriptors might include cultural insensitivity, stereotyping, or failure to recognize diverse perspectives in professional or organizational settings.

Does anyone have any descriptors for a competency based around cultural diversity? Including negative descriptors.

  1. Try the NHS Knowledge and Skills Framework (NHS KSF)
    The Department of Health has done a lot of work on this.

    The descriptors are called indicators. For example: identifies and highlights methods and processes to resolve complaints as a consequence of unfair and discriminatory
    practice. A negative descriptor could be as follows: does not identify and/or highlight methods and processes to resolve complaints as a consequence of unfair and discriminatory
    practice.

  2. Not a competency
    A competency is something that one can be incrementally better at. Cultural Diversity is a standard and not a competency, it also neglects the broader issue and focuses on culture rather than other diversities issues including, religion, age, disability, gender, sexuality etc.
