  1. Do you want to use role-play?

    Hi Cathy

I have written some conflict resolution role-play material. It is in the context of CR in the NHS but I think it could be used as a template for substituting equivalent anger/conflict situations for other types of occupations. There is generic CR training material but I assume that you would want to focus on your particular type of business.

  2. Things to be included
I think it’s important when devising a conflict resolution programme to do quite a lot of work on both verbal and non verbal communication skills. The main reason for any conflict is usually the breakdown of communication, I always include this skills training within the roleplay models. I also like to video each roleplay to help the group to see where areas of communication have broken down.

  3. Litening to conflict
At the heart of our conflict resolution is a real focus on the practice of listening to understand and managing your own agenda. Without these skills being mastered any futher techniques or knowlegde will be useless.

  4. Conflict resolution
    Hi Cathy

Alongside my full time training profession, I’m also an approved self protection instructor, we deal with conflict resolution with an ABC method
A-Avoid conflict if possible, prevention is the best cure
B – Breathe deeply, don’t take it personally or get upset
C – Control your emotions and reactions

Finally, A gentle answer turns away wrath, rather than try to battle each other down, respond peacefully and the conflict will soon fizzle out. Hope this Helps, feel free to get in contact if you need anything else

  5. Workshop exercise
I wrote a book on Managing Conflict (available through Amazon or Capita for less than £6) which has an exercise in it around how individuals view conflict. I’ve used it during workshops and it’s generated loads of discussion because it is centred around cliched and stereotyped attitudes.
Email if I can help !!

  6. Conflict Resolution
Hi Cathy – take a look at Mobile Team Challenge’s web site and download their Conflict Resolution pdf brochure. http://www.mtceurope.co.uk
They sell a piece of experiential kit which is purely focused on Conflict Res. – it’s interactive, accelerated learning and great fun.(or you can hire them to facilitate an in-house day for you). I’ve attended one of these days – awesome!
