Consultation Begins on the Future of IT Skills

default-16x9

E-skills UK is hosting a series of half-day consultation events throughout the UK, starting this month to help shape the national frameworks for the IT profession and for IT user skills in all sectors of industry.

The Sector Skills Council for IT and Telecoms aims to put together a set of National Occupational Standards (NOS) for training programmes and qualifications that meet the needs of businesses and attract government funding.

The events will focus on two main strands:

  • Feedback on PROCOM, the common language and framework for defining IT professional skills, knowledge and experience devised by e-skills. Based on existing skills and development programmes such as the Skills Framework for the Information Age (SFIA), the National Occupational Standards and BCS's Chartered Professional programme, eskills wants input from employers to ensure the framework and related standards are reflective industry needs.
  • The e-skills UK IT User Skills framework and related standards underpin the development of all qualifications and learning materials focused on using technology - whether at school, home or the office. The skills council wants input on whether the framework and standards reflect employers' needs.
  • For more information on the events and/or take part in the online consultation, go to www.e-skills.com/consultation.
