Course Materials & resources

default-16x9

I am keen to know trainers opinions and experiences on the purchase of course materials. Are they really useful or do they require so much amending that it is easier to write from scratch?

  1. Only my opinion

    Hi Beatrice

I've always found it easier to write my own materials. I'm happy utilising individual exercises etc that someone else has written but more difficult when it is a full course. I always find that I have to adapt them so much that it makes it a waste of time and money. It seems to be more difficult (for me anyway) to try and get into the head of the person that has written the materials. I know what I want to achieve when I put materials together so they don't have to be in as much detail.

As I say, it's just my personal opinion but I would always write my own.

  2. Also only my opinion

I never totally like anyone else's course materials however as long as they can adapted (i.e. I purchase copyright waiver) then it does save me a lot of design time.

  3. You can use them as a resource and shape them to your needs

In my experience with the training community, many trainers don't have enough time to sit down and comprehensively design their courses. They tend to be focused on training delivery and meeting market demand. This is particularly the case if they have to quickly cover a new area. As a result, purchasing training materials can greatly speed up the process for them but as mentioned already, it is important that you obtain materials with a copyright licensing that allows you to modify them based on your training needs and preferences.

When you want to purchase training materials there is a series of points you may like to consider as shown in this buying guide.

    Hope this helps.

  4. Online course materials are very crisp and concise

Now-a-days course materials that are available online, are been constructed based on a lot of research and market analysis. Keeping in mind the current educational requirements and ongoing trends, the course materials are systematic and concise. No unnecessary illustrations are added to increase their volume.
