Courses – training

default-16x9

Hi,

I currently work as a training manager in technical training.

I would like to develop the ability to deliver soft skills courses. I have teaching experience. Does anyone know any good courses / ways to get into this.

Thanks,
L

  1. NLP Practitioner Training
    Hi Laura

In my experience, NLP Practitioner training provided the most intensive training experience with which to enhance my soft skills training expertise.

As you come from a technical background like myself, you will probably find the logical models of how we communicate to be incredibly effective in increasing your understanding of communication and motivation – and so give you the material around which to design your soft skills training.

It would also be incredibly useful to shadow and/or partner colleagues who provide soft skills training. This will help you to see what course structure and activities work well. Most good practice in learning design works well in both technical and soft skills settings (if you bear in mind the context in which the skills are to be used when designing the training).

I’m really glad I made the swap to soft skills. There is rarely one “right answer” in soft skills scenarios, which makes for a much more interesting trainer’s role. Best of luck!

  2. Worthwhile workshop
    Hi Laura

Have you considered attending the Facilitation Skills Course run by The Training Foundation?

I completed this course a couple of months ago and received a Certificate in Facilitation Skills (NVQ Level 4 equivalent). I found the course extremely beneficial and was able to put all the tools into practice on my return to work.

The course provided a structured development of advanced delivery skills, these included facilitation skills, coaching, counselling and accelerated learning techniques. During the course we were assessed whilst delivering a coaching session (both skills and behavioural), a training session whilst handling challenging learners and several others. We also learnt how to build creativity into the design and delivery of training courses.

The course was delivered in small groups by a full-time qualified trainer. After completing the 5 day course I felt more energised and enthused than I had for years, and I now have a toolbox of valuable techniques that I can pull on when ever I need to.
