I have been asked to source some training for a Sales Manager, who needs support in analysing sales figures. The lady in question is a fantastic sales person, but can't match figures e.g why are sales so much higher for this product in w/c June... she panics and ends up saying that there was a promotion or left over stock (this isn't the case!), she can't see the reason in the data in front of her. When asked to examine spreadsheets, she doesn't question 'strange' numbers or oddities!
I am struggling to find an open course - her excel skills are good and she is great at numeracy generally, we are able to pay for one to one coaching - but where to look?!!
We are based in the London - any suggestions/ recommendations would be most welcome!

You could try The Sales Consultancy, contact Leigh Ashton [email protected], I know that they do sales coaching for individuals so this maybe within their remit.

I did some qualititative training with NatCen and it was excellent – I’ve just looked on their site and they also do basic statistics. Although your sales person should be aware the organisation focuses on social research, not sales, so it might not be ideal, but I daresay if they don’t do what you want, they will know someone who will!

Data Analysis Training
Hi Kate,
It would seem that your Sales Manager needs some basic training in statistics in order to help her understand the concepts of natural and special variation. However she could easily use the spreadsheets to graphically show the data over time and look for trends and/or seasonal variations.
