DDI’s Targeted Selection

default-16x9

I am doing an informal review of Competency based selection tools for an HR Director colleague. I've looked at DDI's web page and I'm interested in User experience of any of the Targeted Selection series tools (Targeted Selection, Landing the Candidate, Quick Hire, and Motivational Fit). When I spoke to a DDI consultant a while ago I got the distinct impression that he did not want to spend time with anyone who did not have a budget! So, I only got very general descriptions. I more interested in direct User expereince and the benefits and limitations of these tools. I'd be grateful if anyone with direct experience would contact me so that I can have a quick chat with them.

  1. I have some experience
In my past life, within NatWest, I was an accredited user of The DDI competency based selection interviewing technique for over 5 years. Their system uses the STAR model, star standing for Situation or Task, Action and Result. Candidates are asked to explain specifically what action they took in a given situation and their responses are assessed against the competencies and behavioural indicators required in the role they are applying for. For more information give me a call on 01423 546958.

  2. Targeted selection
Give me a call and I can assist with this and some other selection techniques.

  3. a good process – with qualifications!
I too have used DDI products for the past 10 yrs – mainly Targeted Selection and Performance Management tools. Undoubtedly the STAR concept is the backbone of their success, as it’s easy to apply and produces good results. The training can be too structured for some people, but others like that. The US origins can also be a turn-off if not handled well by the trainer. We found Targeted Selection worked best when all managers go through the training so it becomes the standard interview method. It may not be the bees knees now , but DDI were doing competency based interviewing before most companies caught the wave, so it’s worth investigating!

  4. Criteria based interviews
I first came across DDI in 1986 when working for ICL. At the time I was primarily involved with Assessment Centre design and implementation and this included CBIs. If you want some info please feel free to contact me
