Development Pathways for Managers

default-16x9

I am developing a Pathways Scheme for managers at every level, which provides a coherent pathway from first level management to senior management. This will include how managers are selected or select themselves; linking together all the professional qualiications; identifying development opportunities;setting up a mentoring scheme; an evaluation system; how to get buy-in at all levels;etc.

If you have done something similar or have any ideas on any part of this, I would love to hear from you

  1. Did something vaugly similar
    Judy,

I did something similar on a narrower basis with Project Managers. We set up a Project Managers certification programme round the Association for Project Management’s accreditiation programme. This is a multi tier (3 at the moment but possibly expanding) certification programme.

We already had a training curriculum for Project Managers so we suplemented this with additional study sessions and study material to help candidates get through thew certifications.

Because it was an external certification it was bought into by employees because they saw they got something out of it. A professional accreditation to put after their name and on their CV.

Becuase it was giving staff an external accreditiation then so managers saw advantages for them (I was working with a services company at the time) in terms of making their staff more marketable.

The point here is there is probably one key to getting buy in:

With good marketing and good press then we found we were continally inundated with enquiries about the programme from all levels of the company. We ran well publicised brieifng sessions on the programme around the company targetted at all levels as well as articles through in house magazines.

Hope that helps and if you want to discuss give me a call or drop me a mail.

    Regards,
