Disappearing Outlook Express emails?

default-16x9

Last week, users of Outlook Express 6 and 5.5 repoted emails being deleted and corrupt inboxes. The problem has arisen for those using Widows 2000 or XP with McAfee AntiScan 4.5.1 and Outlook Express. When users download an email the inbox file becomes damaged. In some cases entire inboxes have been deleted and message sent reading “Welcome to Outlook Express 6” as if they are a new user.

Jack Clark, product manager for McAfee, has said that the problem is being treated as “high priority”.

McAfee had released a “fix” to the problem that was available from technical support, however it has emerged that this has not remedied the problem. Clark states that the problem is difficult to fix as it is “difficult to reproduce….we acknowledge that some people are upset by this and are working hard to resolve it”.

In the mean time, McAfee have suggested users try a couple of techniques to work around the problem. These include:
· Creating a second inbox and setting the rule to send all emails into the new inbox.
· Select “Compact Messages In The Background” which may help stop emails disappearing.
· Disable the McAfee virus scanner and Internet filters.

Off course the real solution would be a full proof fix from McAfee. We’ll keep you posted as soon as this is published.
