Doer, Actor, Friend & Thinker analysis

default-16x9

A colleague has asked me whether I know of a theory which deals with body language, voice and facial expressions associated with the
style awareness of Doer, Actor, Friend & Thinker. I am at a loss. It sounds like it may be a re-work of NLP and or learning styles. I have never come across it before and am intrigued. Can anyone solve the riddle of the source for this?

  1. Personality types
    Hi Iain

This is a popular way of looking at personality as it is very accessible and easy for people to relate to. As ever with personality typing it’s worth reiterating that it’s a guide to understanding and making sense of the world, not a silver bullet. It does however give people a shared language for discussing behaviour.

It’s probably easier for you to find material based on the slightly less ‘user friendly’ categorisations of Driver, Expressive, Amiable and Analyst.

You can read more from Merrill and Reid(1999), Personal Styles and Effective Performance.

We had success using a similar modelling system delivered via an e learning application to help people understand their styles and those of others to improve their interactions in their unique environment.

  2. Similar to Mick COPE’s
Those personality indicators are similar to Mick’s in his book Personal Networking, which is very good. viz Rock, Sage, Star and Judge.
