Employment Relations
 
Paul Salvidge is the director of Employment Relations Directorate; part of Corporate and Consumer Affairs.
Employment Relations Directorate has as its main responsibilities:
 
POLICY AND LEGISLATION:

* European directives and representation in individual employment rights 
* industrial relations and related matters 
* hours of work, pay, public holidays 
* DTI interest in labour market issues 
* employment agency standards 


OPERATIONAL FUNCTIONS:

* redundancy and insolvency payments 
* employment agency standards inspectorate 
* monitoring and advice on pay matters 

The Working Time Regulations (WTR) came into force on 1 October 1998. The Regulations implement the European Working Time Directive and parts of the Young Workers Directive.

The Employment Relations Act 1999 is part of the Government's programme to replace the notion of conflict between employers and employees with the promotion of partnership.

Our Employment Market Analysis and Research team (EMAR) provide professional advice, backed by analysis research and evaluation, on employment relations and labour markets.
We also liaise with ACAS (the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service) and the Certification Officer.
