E-Learning access for employees expected to double

Whenever new training ideas are introduced, fairly articulate information and justification is needed to highlight the benefits of such training to both the organisation and those at whom the training is intended.

A report produced by The Forum Corporation outlined some significant factors, that even though the research has been based around American organisations these points are useful to take into consideration for UK companies. It is useful to take into consideration the problems that have already been encountered to ensure against these happening again.

The survey visited 144 US organisations and identified that access to e-Learning facilities were expected to double over a two year period.

As e-Learning is becoming increasingly popular, many companies are introducing this methodology without proper management of its implementation and are losing sight of the fundamentals of adult learning in their rush. These organisations appear more concerned about implementing the appropriate IT solution first and foremost without giving the same priority that the impact of e-Learning would have on their audience.

Those that have more effectively implemented e-Learning have also recognised that IT is a means to delivering effective learning and not as an end in itself.

Here are some of the findings summarised from a four-page report that can be found at Forum Reports.

  • Adoption rates to e-Learning are much slower than expected.
  • Number of companies expected to provide e-Learning will increase from 21% to 51% over the next two years.
  • 60% of companies are expected to implement 10 of the 11 components of an e-Learning system over the next two years.
  • Technology has been highlighted as the the main problem against effective implementation of an e-Learning solution over time constraints, the cost, employee resistance and appropriate measurements for effectiveness.

The Forum Corporation is a global workplace learning company, that help large organisations create appropriate learning strategies and develop learning solutions.
