An online survey carried out by the European Centre for the Development of Vocational Training (Cedefop), highlighted that only 30% of the 562 respondents rated their own ability to write an e-learning programme as very good or excellent. More than 50% described their technical skills as poor or fair and the same percentage again said that they had not received any formal training.

80% believed that they needed new skills in designing and delivering e-learning either immediately or within the next two years. This information was presented at the Online Information 2000 conference held in London and the results are said to be casting doubt on the quality of online software available on the market.

The survey was carried out on Cedefops electronic training village (ETV) which is intended as a website for gathering information and opinions on e-learning.
