Evaluating trainers

default-16x9

Hi Guys,

I have been asked to look at evaluating the training consultants in my team and have got some information.

Just wondering if anyone would be willing to share a template or similar they use for someone to fill in while watching the training delivery?

Thanks in advance

Helen

  1. Sorry

Just realised there is another post on here.

    Some more information:

We want to have a person external to training observe the trainers from an audit point of view ( we work in financial services) so that all trainers are delivering to the same standard both here and in India.

    Thanks

  2. ‘scuse my ignorance but……

….wouldn’t the best way to audit the trainers’ consistancy be through a delegate exam at the end of the training….this would test the trainers’ efficiency by assessing what the delegates learned rather than a tick box of  what the trainers covered.

  3. Trainer Evaluation

Hello Helen.   First you need to establish what are you evaluating them on?

Is it their facilitation skill? If so, then a simple micro-teach assessment such as for the Preparation to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS). However, this will depend on how they were taught to train plus the skill level of the evaluator.

Is it that content is being included? If so, then establish a checklist and tick as you observe them.  This is easy to do and can be generated from the trainer manual/lesson plan that you work to. However, just because the trainer includes the right content it does not mean that the delegates will learn.

Is it that the delegates will be able to transfer new knowledge into the workplace. If so, the trainer is only one strand of the evaluation that you will need to do.  I believe that once you know what you need to prove at the end of the process, the beginning will become clear.

Hi Helen~ here is the best information out there (in my humble opinion.) They are proponents of a hybrid feedback system that goes beyond the ‘smile sheets’ that we’re all used to..Jim and Wendy really have put a lot of development into the 3rd level..Hope it helps!

Happy to share with you a list of questions that I developed some years ago and subsequently put into a book for Kogan Page

Send me your email and I’ll send on the list

  6. Evaluating Trainers

    Hi Helen,

I’m Stuart Lowry, Training Director at Capita Learning and Development. We always used to struggle with how to evaluate trainers in a fair and objective way. We then partnered with the Training Foundation who used their TAP methodology to evaluate and then train oour permanent and associate trainers.

It has been superb and has really helped us evaluate trainers and feedback to them in a very pragmatic way. We are now TAP Silver Tier partners and I became a qualified TAP assessor for my organization. This really helped as it meant the TAP methodologies have become self sustaining in the company and it has also provided a consistency in our language and approach.

Coupled with their fantastic trainers (who really role model the TAP methodologies and behaviours), I would have no hesitation in recommending this evaluation method to you.

    Stuart
