Exercises for an Assessment Centre

default-16x9

I'm looking for a group exercise for 12 people I can use for a pilot assessment centre I am running to select trainee lawyers. I would like it to bring out basic management competancies eg Planning and Organising, Influencing Skills, Communication Skills etc. Does anyone have anything they are willing to share?
Many thanks

  1. Pilot Assessment Centre
If you’re looking to have your assessment centre accredited at some point an approach to the Institute of Leadership and Management might be of help with your initial need.

A useful contact maybe the Employee Development Unit of Sheffield City Council. The council has invested heavily in the devlopment of such centres and may be able to provide you with some assistance.

  3. BUILD YOUR IDEAL TOWN
we use an exercise where they have to ‘build your ideal town’.
They are provided with buildings made of Lego, and a list of what is there. 2 churches, indian takeway, chinese restuarant, asylum seeker refuge, gas, elec water works sewage plant, terraced houses, detached, semi detached flats, council offices, factories, railway staions, etc you can make it as diverse as you want.

They have to lay out their plan ionto 2 peices of flip paper onto which you have marked an area of outstsnding beauty, a river and a compass point telling them the wind predominstely blows west or whatever.

They then have 5 mins to read instructions without talking then 20 mins to build, the 5 mins to check they are happy before you ask them qs re the town.

It can bring out lots of differing responses as they try to locate EVERY building onto the map, takeways will be by the pubs and clubs. Schhols will be near the houses, detached will not be near the asylum refuge etc.

Goiod funa nd really gives you an insight into their thought processes.

The main point is would you live there?? Would your ideal town have a sewage plant??

    good luck
