Patricia Hewitt, Trade and Industry Secretary will be offering IT organisations a share of £1m in order to encourage workplaces to be more attractive to women. Hewitt states “The current situation is bad for women. It means they are missing out on opportunities to earn the higher wages available in the IT sector. It’s also bad for the economy”.
IT companies may be able to secure up to £55,000, which will be allocated to consultancy fees aimed at promoting the workplace to women. Applications to the fund must be made before 8th March 2002.
