Further Education Policy

default-16x9

We currently pay course fees for staff who do further education courses either professional qualifications or home study. We contribute 50% of the course fees at the beginning of the course and the remaining 50% once they have passed the qualification. I am looking to develop a policy whereby staff who either drop out or leave the company whilst studying for a course or 12 months after they have finished the course have to pay the company back. Would be really grateful for copies of other company policies or suggestions on what to include. my email address is [email protected]

  1. FE Policy
    Hi Vivienne,

We had something similar to this created when I worked for Spring and we used an external consultant to help us. Her name is Patricia Staunton – she is an independent HR specialist and you can contact her at [email protected]

I found Pat to be very knowledgeable and willing to help and I am sure she could forward you something if you mention my name to her.

    I hope this helps.

    Regards,

    Gary

  2. Pay back
The law relating to ‘payback’ clauses has altered. You need to check any proposed clause against current EU legislations regarding the freedom of workers.

The law is complex on this point but in a nutshell anything that discourages movement of workers is legally unenforcable.

Given this contact a good employment lawyer. I suggest Martin Malone of Canter Lever and Berg in Liverpool.

His profile is on http://www.lawzone.co.uk and we have used his skills. He is fair you know what you are paying for and he provides great clarity in advice.
