Great Britain PLC – What our Leaders could learn about engagement

default-16x9

This week has seen the public sector workers hit the streets in protest against the savagery of the government cuts. And whilst political commentators and journalists are rubbing their hands with glee at the prospect of a class war to rival the 1970s I was left thinking just one thing; what happened to engagement in all of this?

Firstly I want to stress that this is in no way politically motivated. My simply observation is this. Have any of our politicians had any leadership training? If they had then they would know that the first rule of managing change successfully is to gain the buy in of those they are leading through change. It seems that whilst everyone including the Unions accepts the fact that cuts have to be made the Government has failed in the simply task of engaging the public sector in how these changes are going to happen.
Now I know it isnt as simple as I have made out, but for a Government that stresses that “we are all in it together” (sic) there seems to be very little attempt to actual engage us.
So Mr Cameron if you would like some leadership training on change or employee engagement I am sure there are plenty of us TZ’s that would be more than happy to help.
